Good Soccer Reads Shared at the XI Quarterly Launch Party

Posted on by & filed under Events, Issue One.

A love of good soccer literature is something of a niche passion in the United States: even in a city as big as Chicago, finding fellow fans familiar with Soccer In Sun and Shadow is a bit of a rarity. And if you’re new to the game yourself and don’t know your Galeano from your Hornby, it can be hard to meet folks who can recommend interesting reading to you.

So when we decided to host the XI issue one launch party in Chicago this past Thursday on Cleo’s charming patio, we thought we’d pair revealing the new publication with a “soccer book swap.” We weren’t sure what to expect, and we were delighted when over 80 people showed up and a huge pile of books came and went all night:

From Soccernomics to far more obscure Stefan Szymanski works to Jamie Carragher’s autobiography, it was all there. As was XI issue one:

XI Issue One

If you want to delve into issue one, take out a subscription today, and look out for other XI events coming up soon on the West Coast – and perhaps some more soccer book swaps in the near future!
